Taipei, Sept. 11 (CNA) The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released Monday the results of a call-to-action for beach cleanups it made back in April, which showed a massive surge in the number of cleanups by corporations, schools and civil organizations.

According to the statement, 440 of these groups have hosted a total 389 coastal cleanups so far since April, in which 11,352 individuals participated, gathering 133.07 metric tons of garbage.

The EPA revealed that the company that cleaned up the largest area of coastline in a single event was Taiwan Sugar Corp., whose Yunlin-Chiayi branch cleared a 5-kilometer stretch of beach.

The Taiwan Power Company's Hsinta Power Plant takes the title for most beach cleanups organized, hosting 36 cleanups from the end of April to the start of September.

Top-ranking companies for most employees mobilized were Taiwan Sugar's Yunlin-Chiayi branch with 1,943 employees, followed by Cleanaway Enterprise with 500 employees, and ChipMOS with 310.

The numbers were calculated from April 22 to Sept. 8, the EPA said, while urging the public to continue with their coastal cleanup efforts.
